Meta officially discontinued their Facebook Chat plugin on the 9th of May, 2024. If you are looking for a free Facebook Chat Plugin alternative that will allow your customers to reach out to you via Facebook Messenger and will blend seamlessly with your website's design, we are glad to report that we have released our own replacement: Facebook Messenger Widget.

So, how does it work?

After adding it to your website, our Facebook Messenger widget will take the form of a greeting card that will invite your customers to start a conversation with your company on the Messenger Platform. Once the customer clicks on the Contact us on Messenger button, OpenWidget will automatically open the Messenger application installed on your customer's device and will trigger a conversation with your Facebook's business page.

By default, the Messenger launcher is situated at the bottom right corner of your website, seamlessly blending with your brand's aesthetics. You can also change its position in the OpenWidget Management App so that it sits right where you want it.

People browsing through your website can also trigger a full-screen view, where they can not only start a conversation with your Facebook page, but also use other features that you can configure in OpenWidget's Management App – features like our WhatsApp Widget or ChatGPT for your website. And the best part is, once added to your site, you won't need to add any new HTML codes if you'd like to use any of the other widgets offered by OpenWidget. All of them will be available under the same bubble.

How to configure and add the Facebook Messenger widget to your website?

When designing our free Facebook Messenger Widget for your website, we made sure that both the configuration and the installation were easy. With just a few steps, your customers will be able to interact with the Facebook Messenger widget added to your website and reach out to you anytime they want.

1. Sign up for a free OpenWidget account

First, sign up for a free OpenWidget account and go through the onboarding process. During the onboarding, you can configure your OpenWidget account and set up the initial features that will be available for your customers.

2. Configure your free Facebook Messenger Widget

Once your OpenWidget account setup is complete, navigate to the Widget content section within your OpenWidget management app. There you will find the Messenger section – all that you need to do here is to provide a name or a link to your Facebook business page that you created on Facebook platform and Save changes. The link to your Facebook page may look like this:

https://www.facebook.com/livechat

3. Add a free Facebook Messenger Widget to your website

The process is easy! First, copy the snippet code provided by OpenWidget, available in the Add to website section, and then paste it into your website's source code, right before the closing body tag. If you require further assistance, you can check out our dedicated installation tutorials to walk you through the process of integrating OpenWidget into various popular Content Management Systems. Click here to check them out! You can also send them to your developers if you have a separate team responsible for editing your website.

Done! Now Facebook Messenger Widget by OpenWidget is added to your website, and your customers can start a chat with you on your Facebook business page anytime they want – no matter if they're on their phones, or in front of their desktop devices.
